Trains to Run Smoothly Even in Heavy Rain: New Safety System in Sealdah Yard

- •Eastern Railway introduces an advanced 'Dual Detection' safety system in Sealdah Yard for safe and smooth train services during monsoon.
- •The system is implemented on 15 critical track circuits prone to waterlogging, enhancing passenger safety and operational efficiency.
- •It combines 'Multi Section Digital Axle Counter' (MSDAC) with the existing 'DC Track Circuit' to detect train presence.
- •This dual technology significantly reduces the possibility of false signals and service disruptions caused by heavy rain and waterlogging.
- •The initiative aims to minimize train delays, eliminate long waits, and reduce human error, ensuring a more comfortable and punctual commute for passengers.

Eastern Railway has introduced an advanced 'Dual Detection' safety system in Sealdah Yard to ensure safe and smooth train operations during heavy rain and waterlogging. This system combines the existing 'DC Track Circuit' with a 'Multi Section Digital Axle Counter' (MSDAC) on 15 critical tracks.
The Dual Detection system uses two independent technologies simultaneously to confirm a train's presence on the same track. While heavy rain can disrupt traditional electrical track circuits, the parallel MSDAC system acts as a reliable backup by directly counting the train's axles or wheels, reducing detection errors to almost zero.
Rajiv Saxena, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sealdah Division, explained that track circuits automatically control signals and points to prevent two trains from running in the same section together. He noted that the parallel MSDAC backup system significantly increases the operational reliability of the busy terminal.
