Key Questions Answered

The state Vigilance Department is probing the road construction due to questions raised over the massive expenditure of Rs 647 crore for a 25-kilometer stretch during the previous LDF government and a complaint submitted by Ambalappuzha MLA G Sudhakaran.

The 25-km-long stretch, which serves as Keralam's first semi-elevated highway designed to ensure uninterrupted vehicle movement during heavy flooding in the Kuttanad region, was inaugurated in March by then Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Despite being reconstructed as a semi-elevated highway to prevent flood disruptions, a major portion of the road remained inundated following heavy floods in August, affecting vehicle movement and prompting concerns about how the Rs 647 crore was utilized.
