Key Questions Answered

PMK leader Anbumani criticized the government after an unannounced power outage occurred during an election campaign consultative meeting in the Dharapuram constituency of Tiruppur district, which was attended by five ministers. He highlighted that persistent power cuts and voltage fluctuations have damaged machinery worth over 100 crore rupees across Tamil Nadu and disrupted rural life and Samba cultivation.

According to PMK leader Anbumani, the primary reason for the widespread power cuts is that the combined electricity production and procurement in Tamil Nadu falls short of the total demand by 2,000 MW. Although the state government claims to purchase 2,000 MW from the open market, ground realities show no improvement, with rural areas experiencing daily outages lasting 6 to 8 hours.

Anbumani pointed out that electricity is readily available in the national market and can also be procured from private power generation plants within Tamil Nadu. He urged the government and the Electricity Board to abandon their negligence and take immediate, war-footing actions to eliminate the power cuts.
