The Bardasundari Durga Puja is more than three hundred years old, with its origins tracing back to around 1742 when merchant Mohan Das first started the worship in Nadia before it was later moved to Suri.

The puja is completely self-reliant, with Samiran Das handling all the idol-making tasks—including building the structure, kneading clay, and painting—while he, his wife Prashmita Devi, and their son manage all the ritualistic ceremonies and mantra chanting.

The goddess was named after Bardasundari, the daughter-in-law of Mohan Das, who organized the puja with renewed enthusiasm alongside her husband Baikunthanath Das in a garden house in Navadwip.
