Key Questions Answered
The Asansol Division has introduced a remote-controlled hydraulic device to properly align heavy concrete sleeper tracks without arduous physical labor. Controlled remotely using a 1.5-meter hose pipe from a safe distance, the 25 kg equipment pushes sleepers by up to 125 millimeters with a 15-ton capacity.
Unlike traditional manual methods that require stopping operations and reducing train speeds to 30 kilometers per hour, this new hydraulic method allows maintenance work to be carried out smoothly without halting trains or reducing their speed.
The new method reduces the required workforce from 18 to 20 workers down to just 6 to 8 personnel. It also cuts down regular track sleeper adjustment time to 6-8 minutes and turnout track adjustment time to 12-15 minutes.
