Key Questions Answered
The Ganges river was recently in spate, impacting dozens of villages in the Katri region. Although the water level has since receded, floodwater remains trapped inside villages due to a lack of proper drainage systems, creating ongoing difficulties for residents and farmers.
Mayra, a nursery student from Chiran Hridayaipur village in Bithoor, recorded a video standing in waterlogged streets pleading with the Kanpur District Magistrate to drain the accumulated water. She explained that the water forces her to take off her shoes to go to school, causes her to fall along with her school bag and father, and makes her sick with fever.
The district administration has assigned new tehsildars and SDM-level officers, along with relevant departments, to ensure that the floodwater is drained as quickly as possible. However, severe problems persist, particularly affecting school-going students who must navigate flooded roads every day.
