Key Questions Answered
Udhayanidhi Stalin criticized Chief Minister Vijay for opening the Mettur Dam on September 1st for publicity rather than at the right time for Kuruvai cultivation, noting that reduced water levels and inflow have left Delta farmers struggling and fearful of not being able to save their Samba crop or ensure water reaches tail-end areas during the flowering stage.
Udhayanidhi Stalin demanded that the government immediately provide drought relief and a full crop loan waiver to the agricultural community instead of deceiving them for publicity.
Agricultural experts and farmers expressed sorrow and warned against undertaking Samba cultivation relying on river irrigation because the decreasing water level and reduced inflow make it doubtful whether water will reach tail-end areas during the crop's flowering stage.
