The Vazhndhu Kaattuvom 1.0 scheme was launched in 2017 with World Bank funding to eradicate poverty in rural areas of Tamil Nadu through enterprise development, financial access, and employment creation. The newly announced Vazhndhu Kaattuvom 2.0 scheme aims to continue these rural development efforts across 37 districts.
Employees are worried because the first phase concluded last year, and although the Vazhndhu Kaattuvom 2.0 scheme was announced, the government order has been delayed for over a month. Furthermore, workers face dismissals, and no salaries have been paid for July and August due to non-allocation of funds.
PMK leader Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately issue the government order to implement the Vazhndhu Kaattuvom 2.0 scheme. He also urged the government to re-employ the 4,684 workers who served under the first phase and to disburse their pending salaries for July and August.
