Key Questions Answered
Nineteen individuals were dismissed after an investigation revealed they secured jobs through the state government's 5 percent sports reservation by submitting fake certificates for sports like Kurash and Dragon Boat.
The fraud was uncovered during the 2024-26 recruitment process after an alert citizen provided confidential information to the police regarding fake Kurash and Dragon Boat certificates. Further suspicion arose because certificates issued in 2018 used newly renamed city titles like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv, which were only officially renamed in 2023.
The Pune Police Crime Branch has arrested four people in connection with the scam, including Ankush Nagar, President of the Maharashtra State Kurash Association, Secretary Shivaji Salunke, and a couple from Kolhapur.
