Starting October 1, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is introducing six new special joyrides to handle the tourist rush. This includes four diesel-powered one-way trips between Darjeeling and Ghum at a fare of Rs 800, the steam-powered 'Red Panda' round trip between Kurseong and Mahanadi at Rs 1,530, and the diesel-operated 'Mukta Dhara' round trip on the same route at Rs 1,030.

To support the launch of six new joyrides and manage the increased operational pressure during the festive season, DHR is recruiting about 15 loco pilots or engine cleaners. The recruitment process has already begun and aims to be completed within one to one and a half months to ensure smooth service.

The diesel-operated round-trip joyride between Kurseong and Mahanadi is named 'Mukta Dhara' as a tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The name connects his celebrated poem with the natural beauty of the Paglajhora stream along the route.
