Key Questions Answered

The 'Kavach' system acts as an automated safety shield that immediately applies the brakes if a driver ignores a danger or red signal, or if the train's speed increases excessively. It also displays signal status in real-time on a digital screen inside the driver's cabin to prevent accidents during poor weather conditions like dense fog.

Between July 25 and October 1, a total of 10 engines were successfully equipped with the Kavach technology and put on the tracks at the Kharagpur Electric Loco Shed. Additionally, equipment installation has been completed in two more engines awaiting inauguration, with work actively progressing on another two.

Special Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags have been installed in freight train engines to enable instant tracking of their exact locations on the railway network directly from the control room. These tags have already been successfully fitted onto two engines, with work underway on three additional engines to enhance operational efficiency.
