Key Questions Answered
Head coach Gautam Gambhir explained that talent alone is insufficient for selection and players must learn to wait for an opportunity. He noted that the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma has performed exceptionally well over the past one and a half to two years, making it the right decision to continue backing them.
Gambhir explicitly stated that neither social media pressure nor external criticism influences the team's playing XI. He emphasized that selections are made solely by the coach and captain in the dressing room based on the best combination to win matches.
Gambhir warned that suddenly dropping players who have performed exceptionally well for a long time just because they failed in three or four matches would create an insecure environment within the team. He questioned how he could justify dropping in-form openers like Sanju Samson or Abhishek Sharma to accommodate a new player.
