Key Questions Answered

Under the UDAN project, the West Bengal government has initiated the construction and development of four new airports in Chharra (Purulia), Balurghat (South Dinajpur), Hasimara (Alipurduar), and Kalaikunda (West Medinipur).

To launch air services in Kalaikunda and Hasimara, the government needs to acquire 30-40 acres of land. Because these were previously army airports that have now received an NOC, arrangements are being made with a 2,700-meter runway so that larger Boeing aircraft can take off and land there.

The state plans to fully connect Malda, fully start Cooch Behar airport in the next phase, identify land in Kalyani for potential PPP model development, and explore turning Behala into a flying training institute.
