Key Questions Answered

TMC MP Kirti Azad approached the Calcutta High Court for anticipatory bail after an FIR was registered against him and his associates. A businessman alleged that on May 21 of the previous year, he was called to Azad's bungalow in Durgapur where an associate demanded 15 lakh rupees and threatened to shut down his LPG business.

Kirti Azad completely rejected the allegations, claiming he is being framed due to political malice and was not even present in Durgapur on the day of the alleged incident. To support this, his lawyers presented flight documents in court and argued that the FIR was filed nearly 15 months later without concrete transaction evidence.

A bench of Justice Kaushik Chand granted Kirti Azad protection from strict punitive action and arrest, while directing him to fully cooperate with the CID investigation. The court specified that if further interrogation is necessary, the CID must provide at least seven days' advance notice.
