Key Questions Answered

A group of cottage cheese traders forcibly entered the vendor compartment at Phulia station, shoved the elderly puja organizer, and tried to drag the five-and-a-half-foot Durga idol out. Dirty water from the cheese bundles leaked and soaked the Kartik and Ganesha idols, causing the clay to soften and ultimately damaging the idol before it reached home.

The idol was commissioned from Soumyadip Mondal, a young clay artist from Shantipur in Nadia, for a family Durga Puja organized in the Sunderbans by Shatrughan Shobhan Kar. It was loaded with a valid ticket onto the first vendor compartment of a down Sealdah local train on October 5.

Clay artist Soumyadip Mondal filed a written complaint with the Ranaghat GRP demanding the identification and punishment of the culprits. The Nadia District Kumbhakar Samiti and the All India Kumbhakar Samiti have strongly protested the incident, warning they will demand strict action and security from top railway authorities, while railway police have launched an investigation.
