Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Rupam challenged the Allahabad High Court order that quashed Delhi University student Akriti Chaudhary's NSA detention and directed that Rs 5 lakh in compensation be recovered from Medha Rupam's salary.
Akriti Chaudhary, a 25-year-old Delhi University student and activist, was arrested in connection with a workers' protest in Noida in April 2026, after which the Uttar Pradesh Police invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against her.
During the hearing, a Supreme Court bench stated that since the decision regarding NSA detention reached the District Magistrate following a complete administrative process involving multiple officers, the District Magistrate cannot be separated from that process.
