Key Questions Answered
Cyber fraudsters send glittering promotional messages on social media, WhatsApp, and SMS offering special sarees and free gifts. Attached to these offers is a malicious APK file that, once clicked, completely hacks the victim's mobile phone and drains their bank account without requiring any OTP or password.
Three major cases emerged in Gwalior. Pinky Sharma lost 500 rupees after opening a file named Karwa Chauth Special Saree, Rohit Singh lost 1,700 rupees from his UPI account after clicking on a Karwa Chauth Free Gift file, and Rajni Verma avoided fraud by refusing to open the suspicious APK file.
Cyber experts advise never clicking on any APK files or suspicious links received from unknown numbers and exercising caution regarding heavy discount claims on social media. Before making purchases or payments, users should thoroughly verify official websites, phone numbers, and sellers to stay protected.
