Eastern Railway has planned a total of 1,354 special train trips for the 2026 Puja season to handle the extra passenger rush during Durga Puja and Chhath Puja, which represents a 12.08 percent increase compared to the previous year.
During Durga Puja from October 17 to October 21, the number of special night suburban local trips in the Sealdah division is increasing from 31 to 51, while in the Howrah division it is rising from 8 to 12, bringing the combined total from 39 to 63.
Holding areas across Howrah, Sealdah, Malda, and Asansol divisions have been expanded by roughly 35.61 percent from 1,02,777 to 1,39,377 square feet. Additionally, CCTV surveillance cameras have been increased from 1,439 to 1,882, and RPF personnel deployment is rising from 1,514 to 1,822 to maintain strict security.
