Four individuals, including an excise inspector named Devendra Kumar, were arrested from Uttarakhand in connection with the Rs 1.5 crore theft at a hotelier's house in Shimla. It is alleged that the excise team searched the fleeing suspects' vehicle, kept half of the stolen goods, and then released them.

The crime was committed by a maid who had been hired for cleaning work just ten days prior to the incident at the house of the owner of Shimla's famous Baljees Hotel and Restaurant. A formal case regarding the theft was registered at the Sadar Police Station on September 8, 2026.

ASP Mehar Kanwar appealed to the public to ensure proper police verification of domestic helpers or employees before hiring them for homes and offices. This includes verifying their permanent address, identity documents, and previous employment details.
