Key Questions Answered
The October 2026 Masik Shivratri falls on the Chaturdashi tithi of the Krishna paksha in Ashwin month, and its date is determined based on the Nishita Muhurta rather than sunrise. According to the Panchang, observing the fast on Thursday, October 8, 2026, is appropriate.
Masik Shivratri is celebrated on October 8 based on the Nishita Muhurta, whereas Chaturdashi Shraadh is decided based on Udayatithi and takes place on October 9. Since the Chaturdashi tithi begins late at night on October 8, daytime Muhurtas like Kutup and Rauhin are not available for Shraadh on that date.
For Chaturdashi Shraadh, the Kutup Muhurta is from 11:45 AM to 12:31 PM and the Rauhin Muhurta is from 12:31 PM to 01:18 PM. Additionally, the Aparahna Kaal spans from 01:18 PM to 03:38 PM, during which Tarpana, Pind Daan, and feeding of Brahmins are performed.
