The Ministry of Defence sealed a historic agreement worth ₹586 crore with the Pune-based company Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited to procure indigenous Auxiliary Power Units for T-72 and T-90 Main Battle Tanks.
An Auxiliary Power Unit acts as a backup power generator that continuously supplies power to the tank's fire control system, night vision, gun stabilization, and firing circuit while the main engine is turned off. This saves a large amount of diesel, prevents the tank from making noise, and avoids detection by infrared radar.
The T-90 Bhishma is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun capable of firing accurate shells and anti-tank missiles. It features a thermal imaging sight to locate and destroy enemies from five kilometers away in dense darkness, alongside Kanchan armor and Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armor to neutralize direct enemy missile attacks.
