J&K Government Allows One-Time Switch from NPS to OPS for Eligible Employees
  • •The J&K Government has approved a one-time option for certain government employees to switch from the National Pension System (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) via Government Order No. 305-F of 2026, issued on September 28, 2026.
  • •This provision applies to employees appointed against posts advertised before December 24, 2009, but who joined service on or after January 1, 2010, and were subsequently covered under NPS.
  • •Eligible employees have three months from the order's issuance date to exercise this option, with applications due by December 28, 2026; the decision is final, and those not opting will remain under NPS.
  • •Applications must be submitted through the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) to the Head of Department/Appointing Authority and then to the Administrative Department for eligibility scrutiny and order issuance within one month.
  • •For employees switching to OPS, their NPS account will close, and they will subscribe to the General Provident Fund (GPF); the entire process, including NPS account closure, must be completed within 120 days of the OPS coverage order.
