The government has increased the wage ceiling for mandatory EPFO coverage from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month, with the new rule becoming effective on September 17, 2026. This change brings more than 51 lakh additional employees under the scope of EPFO social security.
With the limit rising to ₹25,000, an employee's maximum monthly PF contribution share can increase from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000, creating an additional deduction of up to ₹1,200. Furthermore, the employer's contribution toward the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) at 8.33 percent will rise to approximately ₹2,082.50 per month, which can potentially elevate long-term pension benefits based on service history and rules.
EPFO 3.0 is upgrading its digital systems to simplify online record corrections, claim processing, and PF withdrawals. Plans have also emerged to allow eligible PF withdrawals directly via UPI and ATMs, while the fast auto-settlement facility for advance claims up to ₹5 lakh has already been extended to process within three days.
