  • •Five of the cobra snakes easily crawled right over the treated circle, showing that the strong smell had virtually no stopping effect on them.
  • •The experiment proved that using kerosene, water, and phenyl is not one hundred percent effective in repelling snakes as people commonly believe.

Key Questions Answered

To test whether the strong smell repels snakes, snake rescuer Guddu Maurya created a circle using a mixture of water, phenyl, and kerosene and released six venomous cobras inside it to observe their behavior and see if they would crawl out.

The solution had almost no repellent effect on the snakes. Four of the cobras immediately crawled straight across the circle into the forest, and the fifth one did the same, proving the mixture is not 100 percent effective.

To prevent snakes from entering houses, people often plant lemon grass, marigold, snake plant, serpentine, and mugwort, or spray substances like water, phenyl, kerosene, and oils around their property.
