On March 3, 2025, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials intercepted Ranya Rao at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport after she arrived from Dubai, seizing 14.213 kg of foreign-made gold. The gold was allegedly concealed in various parts of her body as well as inside her clothes and footwear.
A total fine of more than 244 crore rupees has been imposed across four individuals involved in the network. Alongside Ranya Rao's 89.91 crore rupee fine, Tarun Konduru Raju was fined 49.51 crore rupees, while Sahil Jain and Bharat Kumar Jain were each fined 53.06 crore rupees.
