India Formally Names, Maps 28 Ladakh Places Amidst China's Cartographic Aggression
- •The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formally named and mapped 28 places and features in Ladakh, following a similar exercise in Arunachal Pradesh.
- •This initiative aims to facilitate accurate recognition and public awareness of these locations, done in consultation with the Ladakhi administration.
- •The move comes as a response to China's 'cartographic aggression,' where it assigns Mandarin names to places in Arunachal and Ladakh to assert territorial claims.
- •China expert Anushka Saxena notes that China's renaming strategy seeks to rewrite history, solidify claims, and integrate Chinese names into international usage.
- •The MHA's action, including mapping 27 places in Arunachal earlier, strengthens India's official documentation and clarifies its sovereign claims against fictitious names used by China.
