Key Questions Answered

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13, 2021, PM GatiShakti is a single digital map platform used across government departments to prevent siloed infrastructure planning. The platform was built in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Every logistics and connectivity infrastructure project valued at more than ₹500 crore must be evaluated and signed off by the Network Planning Group (NPG) before receiving clearance from the Public Investment Board or the Department of Expenditure. The NPG assesses projects based on their connectivity to other transport modes and economic hubs, as well as their timing alignment with surrounding projects.

According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, India's logistics costs fell to 7.97 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023-24, down from 8.84 per cent the previous year. This reduction is attributed partly to the GatiShakti platform, alongside dedicated freight corridors and major infrastructure programmes like Bharatmala and Sagarmala.
