The by-elections cover six critical constituencies: Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, Thattanchavady in Puducherry, and the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam.
Nandigram went to polls because Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated the seat to retain Bhabanipur, while Thattanchavady became vacant after Chief Minister N Rangasamy relinquished it to keep Mangalam.
Madurantakam and Dharapuram recorded impressive voter turnouts exceeding 86.26% and 80.30%, respectively.
