Key Questions Answered

Officials stated that the cave-in was caused by the failure of an old 2.2-metre prestressed cement concrete sewage main line located approximately 3 metres beneath the road. The pipeline gave way at a joint, leading to soil erosion and causing the road above to collapse.

Two people, a man and a woman, were inside the car when it plunged into the sinkhole. Both managed to escape safely without any major injuries with the help of bystanders and nearby traffic police.

Teams from Metrowater and the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) barricaded the area, backfilled the collapsed section, and began concrete grouting to strengthen it. Additionally, the Guindy Traffic Wing is investigating the incident.
