The two cousins, Ritesh Shadeo and Rupesh Kumar Singh, stepped into the Awanrajharia lake to take a bath and drowned after entering deep water. Family members confirmed that neither of the victims knew how to swim.
When the cousins failed to return home by late Thursday evening, family members began searching for them and found their mobile phone out of range. Tracing their last location, they spotted their motorcycle on the Kisko-Jobang road towards the lake and alerted the police.
The victims were identified as 27-year-old Ritesh Shadeo alias Pappu from Hodang village and 30-year-old Rupesh Kumar Singh from the neighbouring Chatra district. Rupesh had visited Hodang village a day prior to see his ailing maternal grandparents.
