IIT Kharagpur launched the NDLI-FERMI AI Tutor integrated with the National Digital Library of India to provide free, guided academic assistance, alongside a free online preparatory platform for GATE and JAM exams to help students reduce dependence on expensive commercial coaching and widen access to higher education.
The two initiatives were launched by Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar at the IIT Kharagpur Research Park in Rajarhat, Kolkata, as part of the institute's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Unlike tools that provide instant answers, the AI tutor uses a guided learning approach with questions, hints, and contextual guidance to help students solve problems independently. Its 'Scan & Ask' feature specifically helps students with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology problems.
