Hitachi CEO Emphasizes Strong Grid Connection Amid Growing Power Demand
- •Hitachi Energy CEO Andreas Schierenbeck stressed the critical need for strong grid connections to support rapidly growing global electricity demand.
- •Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy 2026 event, he noted that 500 GW of generation projects in Germany are currently waiting for grid access.
- •Without adequate grid connectivity, power projects and non-fossil fuel sources face severe challenges in supplying electricity.
- •Terra Praxis co-founder Kirsty Gogan highlighted that India's energy supply would need to increase eightfold to match OECD average consumption levels.
Key Questions Answered
Andreas Schierenbeck emphasized that while electricity demand is increasing tremendously, power projects and non-fossil fuel sources can only fulfill this demand if they have access to a strong grid connection.
Energy consumption in India is over 2 kilowatt-hours per capita, which is significantly lower than the OECD average of 20 kilowatt-hours per capita.
According to Kirsty Gogan, India would need to increase its energy supply by eight times to allow everyone in the country to achieve the OECD average access to modern energy services.
