Key Questions Answered

The GST Council is likely to consider a proposal allowing businesses to file for GST registration across multiple states through a single application process using a unified document set. Once implemented, existing details will be carried over when applying in other states, and the GST system will automatically determine jurisdiction based on the provided location.

Changes in major fields such as a company's name, directors, partners, karta, or the address of an additional place of business will be streamlined for automatic approval. However, changes to the main place of business will still require the approval of the concerned tax officer, unless the business received its initial registration within 3 days via the automatic route.

Approved in September 2025 and rolled out on November 1, 2025, the scheme grants registration within 3 days to small and low-risk businesses identified through data analysis or self-assessment where monthly output tax liability does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh. This streamlined process covers 61 percent of all registered businesses under the Goods and Services Tax framework.
