The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is planning to collaborate with IIT Kanpur's AIRAWAT research foundation to develop an Artificial Intelligence-based bus management system (BMS). This software will handle dynamic duty allocation, payroll management, complaint management, marshal verification, and other operational processes.
Currently, the DTC operates around 6,269 buses from 52 depots, which includes over 4,500 electric buses alongside CNG and cluster buses. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government aims to expand its total bus fleet to 14,000 and increase the number of bus depots to 90 by the year 2028-29.
The new software will integrate Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) for depot- and duty-wise mapping to buses, drivers, and conductors. It will also feature AI-based electric bus charging optimization, real-time route scheduling changes from traffic police, and seamless fare collection integration.
